PlatinumGames’ president and CEO has stepped down | VGC

Kenichi Sato had held the position since April 2016, but in a statement on the PlatinumGames website he revealed that he left the role last month.

Atsushi Inaba, who was vice-president of PlatinumGames and the head producer of its development division, has taken on Sato’s old role.

We now need to accelerate our efforts to create new games that only PlatinumGames can create, and I have decided that the best way to do this is to hand over the presidency to Inaba, who has been the studio head of PlatinumGames for many years and has demonstrated his skills in the creative side of games.”

Upcoming games are Babylon’s Fall (PS4/PS5/PC) and Bayonetta 3 (Nintendo Switch)

Yoko Taro also mentioned late last year that the Nier series was finished, unless given “a big pile of money”

100% there will be more Nier games - whether or not Platinum will be making it... :yeshrug:

And I'm sure PG are struggling but the CEO stepping down after 5 years for the new guy - who in this case is highly regarded - isn't that strange. Ultimately any decent developer will always find contract work with the focus on content these days.

With the quality of Babylon's Fall looking how it looks, I'm not surprised.

The quote makes it seem like the president is burnt out, Platinum is doing too much at all times, they keep taking on games and never go too long without a break.

The change of direction for that game kind of reeks of desperation also. A lot of the AA third party publishers are gonna be going down this path.

They’re all desperately trying to catch a lick with service games

They're gonna get bought by Sony. Along with some other Japs

Sony aren't going to go anywhere near a company with "apparent" organisational issues. They want companies they can scale up quickly so they can start efficiently pumping out good quality games every 2-3 years; a Japanese developer whose best years are behind them isn't that, and apparently it's really difficult for video game developers to get employees in Japan.

Platinum will be alright as they have strong relationships with Nintendo and Square so they should be guaranteed contract work. The likes of Level-5 though... :mjcry:

I think Tencent or NetEase will eventually fully buy them out
