Ok so I played the destiny Beta about 2 days ago i liked it, Very good graphics, idea, mechanics... but then when it cut off i started thinking something was missing. I'm an old school game head since atari... been playing games since then. A game like destiny is something the new mass effect should aspire to, but lets stay on topic.

I'm having trouble understanding the idea for a game like destiny to be strictly an MMO on par with World of Warcraft, Etc.. etc...

Wouldnt it be feasible to create a strong narrative long story campaign and a mmo campaign seperately independant of it. Whatever happened to playing a good game with a great story. I dont wanna play with my friends all the time. The concept of destiny could be greater of a solo campaign wherein you and 2 characters that cross your path go on a journey throughout the solar system blowing shyt up and beating the bad guys, all the while following the story of what the guardian is, and what is the shadows and other aliend races doing chasing it...

I think something like that would have made it a must own for me. Because what i played in the beta if they intend to create the whole game like a standard mmo which has been done to death, I could honestly care less...

Alot of gamers care about the characters in which they play just look at the reboot tomb raider and the last of us and the abrupted poorly ending of the mass effect series...

The story DOES matter...

I look at games like titanfall and see guys falling over playing this repetitive multiplayer only garbage, Jeezus where does it end, why dont these devs realize the reason the game sucks is because your not giving players a choice and games where it's large in scope deserves a story to uphold it. Just imagine Gears with no backstory, halo with no backstory...

A war story without background is horrible. You need to KNOW, why your character fights, why he exists, the protagonists, antagonists, I mean is that all we as gamers want is to play some bullshyt that pc gamers love with no end.

That's why i fear what Destiny will become a game without any end, in which all DLC will have a high proce tag in which we all see us as gamers line up with credit cards screaming take our money.

These devs are halfassing us as gamers over these games, where does it end? If im gonna be shelling out $60-$80 for a game let it be a game i enjoy and REMEMBER!

Destiny isn't an MMO. Bungie never claimed it to be one.

well it feels like an mmo to me.....

TechCheatsheet : "Activision and Bungie haven’t referred to Destiny as an MMO despite its online characteristics, which heavily resemble games in the MMO genre. Company pages and press releases use words like “persistent online world” with “cooperative, competitive, and public gameplay” to skirt around the subject. Marketing insists on labeling it a first-person shooter (FPS) before even touching on the fact that it’s a massively multiplayer online game. So, why would Activision want to avoid the calling it as such?

MMO carries a stereotype — one that Activision would rather avoid. When consumers hear a game falls under the MMO genre, visions of World of Warcraft raids and YouTube videos of Leroy Jenkins suddenly flood in, and it’s not an attractive image. It’s a genre that would instantaneously alienate consumers with word association. First-person shooter — now that’s sexy. Call of Duty and Halo blockbusters are titles that a lot of people buy, and that’s what Activision’s marketing team is aiming for."

An MMO game, that's not an....MMO....

You aren't gonna win this argument on here. I don't think very highly of Destiny, but most people on here love the game. It is what it is. :manny:

I dont think it comes close to a mmo,

if you could interact with 100's of people at once, then yes it would be

its a co-op and it has multiplayer pvp

very rarely did you play with random people when going to your missions

when you actually get to the mission, a respawn restricted sign pops up, no one else is part of that mission except you and whoever is in your party

I'm not talking about that section im talking about the overall design of the game...

essentially an 'instance' like in MMO's

this game is very much like an MMO but its gonna attract fans like me that might be disappointed if we dont have enough end game content
