we all had players we either hated so much that we couldn't stand the thought of respecting their abilities or simply overlooked until they retired. I have my top three athletes that I didn't give their proper due until they retired.

1. Kevin McHale: in the heat of the Lakers/Celtics rivalry, I gave no respect to this awkward, Frankenstein doofus with no hops as a player. I couldn't stand him or any Celtic player. But then he had some sick ass streak after the Celtics fell off where he went on a scoring tear that had me like :patrice:

Then he retires in 92 and a year to two later I realized that I never saw a player with that many post moves in my entire life. I didn't take watching his game as special until after he left.

I'll add my number two later....(Eric dikkerson) Speak on yours

Muggsy Bogues. When I was a kid I was just like "oh, he's the shortest guy in the NBA." When I got older I was like, "Wait....I never, ever, ever see a 5'3" kid getting real playing time on a high school team, not even a bad one....HOW THE HELL DID A GUY SHORTER THAN MY WIFE START 500+ GAMES IN THE NBA!!!"

As for op, Kobe. Liked him his first few years, after that the Lakers started winning too much, then I inherited a war against him with the 03 draft class, started to appreciate him again at the end of his career

I don't think there's any player in particular, but whenever there's a changing of the guard (either a team or a league in general) you appreciate that time and the players a little bit more, knowing you're never going to see it/them again.

Holy fukk wow, a 5"3 tall player in the NBA...and he managed to compete with the best and have a decent long career :wow:

Nikkas here laugh at Isiah Thomas for being 5"9 or 5"10 but its above normal height for men in USA. But 5"3 is female like height.

The Gunslinger :smugfavre:

Yeah, he would make dumb throws. And yeah I would be on the "He's overrated!" side during his playing days. But after watching some awful QBs around the league and these dink and dunkers, I miss someone just believing in their arm and gunning it :pachaha:
