Embrace the city that allows you to be a millionaire there. Go to the local zoo. Shop at the local grocers. Become one with that city. Dont strive for sun, beaches, and night clubs. There is more to life than those intricacies.

In today's era of free agency, unless your squad gets lucky with multiple lottery picks in a row, a la OKC, you HAVE to play in a big city if you want to contend year after year, simply because no matter how great you are, no one wants to play in Milwaukee, Cleveland, etc. Bron was the best player on the planet and still couldn't get anyone to join him, Cleveland is THAT wack of a city lol. Same with Garnett in Minnesota.

Notice all the guys you all are mentioning play in NY, LA, Chicago, Miami, etc. Duncan is really the only anomoly, because San Antonio isn't Cleveland, but it's not really poppin like that either. But dude seems like a weirdo judging by his wardrobe and hairline, so he probably enjoys it.

You think Kobe would have played for the Hornets his whole career had he not been traded? Hell nah. shyt, dude was screaming to be traded before the Gasol heist. Where to? Chicago, another major city. Or Jeter if he got drafted by the Brewers?

It's easy to play in one place when it's one of the 5 or so major cities in the US, simply because it'll always attract other talent that will keep your team competitive for the long haul.

I agree that you need to hit on a lottery pick that is a franchise changer.

But competent management can make or break things just as much as a city.

In DC for example, the Wizards have had horrible management but its a city that players all around the league want to play in. I spoke to David Aldridge in person a couple years ago and he was telling me that every summer when he talks to impending FAs, that if DC is brought up, they'd love to live here but management has put out horrible squads :snoop:

I swear, when Gilbert Arenas was healthy and dropping game winners... a competent GM could have surrounded him with a PF who can defend and a better bench to make a run at Detroit all those years in the East

I'd rather be the illest dude in Toronto Raptors history than the 9th best 76er.

Whites dont yearn to be in "happening" cities. Black athletes need to take a que from them.

Shouldnt being paid millions be enough?????

I feel like this type of thinking is only widespread in the NBA. Maybe I'm just not paying attention but I don't really see NFL & MLB players complaining as much about wanting to be in "big market" cities as NBA players. Once again I could be wrong because I don't pay attention to "rumors" from other sports as much as the NBA but yeah to me it seems like more of an NBA thing while players in other sports will spend their entire career playing in a city like Green Bay or Indianapolis.

this shyt hasn't, doesn't, and will never mean anything...it only became important after bron left Cleveland, and people needed something to use against him as far as all time ranking....the only reason people played for 1 team in the past: they were signing those long ass deals of 7-8 years....when the league got rid of those and made winning the ultimate judge of your legacy, players got smarter and said fukk staying in 1 place losing year after year...
