Please explain why the Obama Administration even admitted to trying to rescue hostges in Syria?

I mean, who does that benefit? Filey amd Co weren't in the building, so the mission failed. Who publicizes failure? Then they release DOD vids of SEALs fighting them. Why? Now they know what to expect
