The pursuit, which began before 1:45 p.m., involved a bright green Toyota Prius cab and was going through residential areas and heavily trafficked streets, aerial video showed.

As of 2:20 p.m., the slow-speed pursuit was headed southbound on Crenshaw Boulevard just east of The Forum in Inglewood.

By 2:30 p.m., the male driver was traveling eastbound on Imperial Highway and was just south of the old Hollywood Park area.

About 15 minutes later, the pursuit was going through busy streets in South L.A., at one point passing multiple parked school buses, Sky5 video showed.

Motorists were advised to avoid the areas of Imperial Highway and Yukon Avenue, 118th Street and Praire Avenue, Imperial Highway through Van Ness Avenue, and Central Avenue and 108th Street because of the chase, LAPD said in a series of tweets.

While the driver appeared to be sticking to one lane for the most part, the vehicle — which was being followed by at least 5 Los Angeles Police Department cars and one helicopter– was observed driving at a slow rate of speed while running red lights and making U-turns.

At one point, the man appeared to stick his hand out the window and either high five someone or hand that person something, aerial video showed.

At around 3:00 p.m., the driver appeared to be looking out the window back at police and came to a stop at two separate spots on the same street before driving away.

It was not immediately clear whether the person was armed or if anyone else was inside the car during the pursuit.
