You know
I'm Trying To See Something Here :jbhmm:

Considering my Parents and different Family Members are the ones who introduced me to music and I developed my Taste along the way. I never saw in any black family where the kids hated the music that was being played in the house. The Music was Appreciated.

I Can see that happening to White Families (You know their parents not playing the "Cool Music" Hip Hop)
Or If your parents did not listen to Secular music .

my people weren't musicologists like me. square west indian folks who bumped calypso at parties or just played whatever was poppin on top 40 radio. unlike other hip hop heads my age i ain't grow up listening to the soul, blues & jazz shyt that my favorite producers sampled. i learned about that music much later in life. but my knowledge of 70's disco and 80's pop is on fleek. i still legit fukk with chic, kenny loggins and pat benatar lol

My mom and dad listened to Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Sade, Frankie Beverly and Maze, etc.

I was on that gangsta ish back then with 2Pac, Biggie, E, Bone Thugs N Harmony, UGK, No Limit, and Cash Money.

They didn't like all that cussing and constant use of the n-word.

As I got older I learned to appreciate all of that music it's actually mostly what I listen to now.

My parents came up in the late 70s and early 80s so it was a lot of Prince, Rikk James, Gap Band, Luther, Alexander O Neal, Jeff Osborne, Will Downing, MJ, New Edition, Anita Baker etc

Pops was a big r&b head but he liked Biggie, Snoop n Dre, Jigga and the more smoother shyt. He aint fw rough, street shyt like DMX...too much cussing n violence

My dad a church head, I don’t got no beef with church/religion but I hate gospel music

Dude would listen to the same 2-3 gospel CDs whenever we’d go on road trips :snoop:

By the time we got whatever I wanted to slam my head against a wall. And he’d play them repeatedly. I rather listen to AM radio than that shyt:camby:

Moms was into Common, talib kweli, Mos, Nas, AZ so I guarantee I was the only 14 year old bumping Doe or Die on the bus back in 2015
