I cant lie..Im feelin this YG joint. I like how he put skits between tracks similar to what Kendrick did. It makes the album flow seamlessly and might not be the most lyrical but he is melodic and tells stories. YG's album felt like a more personal album. You can listen to the album and know more about YG.Similar to how listening to GKMC made you feel like you knew who Kendrick Lamar was. The one negative I can say about the YG joint is that there are a bunch of 2min songs.

School Boy Q is more of a lyrical rapper than YG but his album seemed like a bunch of songs verses a story being told with multiple songs. One positive about School Boy Q album is that the beat selection was more diverse and had some real dope concepts on the too.

What yall think? What are yall critiques on both albums?

I was a big Schoolboy Q fan but Oxymoron was a letdown. I agree with YG songs being too short, some of the beats bang hard and then it stops after a few minutes :camby:

Q's album was pretty personal, he had his daughter all up on there, a few tracks he went in about his past. But it wasn't just about him, it was about the the whole gang culture in LA too. He also mentioned he was pushed to have more singles on it than he wanted. YG on the otherhand told u with the album name that this cd is about my crazy life. I like both albums, but I think Oxy is just a better quality project in terms of production, creativity and lyricism.

Skits trick people into overstating the cohesiveness of an album. Real talk.

Both albums are dope though. Might need more time. Q was definitely spittin harder but there's something more genuine about YG. He seems like a genuine savage :lupe:

Yeah...I had to look at the song durations and then I realized that the songs were only 2mins. That is why there are so many songs on the album too.

Also...I know why @JillScottsHunny 1 starred this thread. @JillScottsHunny is one of the Chinese people that YG rapped about in the song meet the flockers. Get a bank account you biitch niigga you...:umad:

Why did @dora_da_destroyer 1 star this thread tho? :what:

I think I still like Oxymoron a lil more...

YG album is straight forward, its sequenced great and is a easy listen... Production is straight west coast and works for YG. But it almost too simple, its not really anything new or nothing we haven't heard already...

Oxymoron is kinda all over the place album wise, but to me the good songs on here are real good and the production sounds a lot more advanced... Songs like Studio, The Purge, Hoover Street just sound fresh to me...

I wish Q could've put a more focused effort together but I think he kinda felt the pressure of dropping a more commercially viable album out, but I like it more the I listen to it...

Both very good west coast albums , I would probably give them both a B+
