I actually think Manu would coach if presented the opportunity. He was at the draft combine and he's been part of the team interviewing draft prospects.

I was looking at the FA market at Center and Forward.
There's not much to get excited over.

I'm mildly...MILDLY interested in someone like Jalen Smith who had a quietly decent season with the Pacers. He's young and I guess with the right coaching and physical training he could develop into something. It's admittedly more of a project but it's a low risk, high reward kind of thing.

But most of the free agents at PF are too old. And the FAs at Center are probably worse.

The market being so thin has to dictate that SAS will take Jalen Duren, Tari Eason or Jeremy Sochan.
I would be extremely disappointed if they went with yet ANOTHER PG/SG inside the first 20 picks of the draft.

Please take Duren at 9

You not excited about DeAndre Ayton being on the market?

No.
As gifted as Ayton is, he hasn’t shown the kind of ceiling that other bigs in the game have. He’s never going to be Jokic or Embiid level. I’m not even sure he’s Towns level.

To be clear, Ayton is a very good player. And the Spurs would be lucky to have him. But I think the price for him would be much higher than he’s worth.

We might be getting new alternate jerseys for the 50th season

A homage to the Iceman era jerseys. Been wanting them to bring back these throwbacks for the longest. This would be the closest to that

Safe to say they will be drafting someone on this list.. lol narrowing down

The top comment in that reddit post is "No Duren?"
And the OP responded that apparently not but it's possible they have.

That said, I would imagine that the players they interviewed indicate more serious interest.
So it sounds like they're going Sochan or Eason at Pick 9.

I'm not thrilled with the idea of another guard being taken - but apparently Johnny Davis is on the list (SG - Wisconsin).

I don't think Mathurin will be there at 9 so that's wishful thinking.

Baldwin looks like a guy a lot of teams will want in the late 1st round. He's a bit of a long term project though.

Not interested in Tyty Washington.

Beauchamp is...I don't know man. Am I wrong to think this guy is another Lonnie Walker?

Procida is a waste of time. Long term foreign prospect. How many times have the Spurs wasted picks on guys like this? I get it. His jumper is wet. He's probably more athletic than I give him credit for. But a lot of guys look athletic and strong in Europe. He'll probably be a star now that I'm bashing him a bit. LOL.

Butler Jr -- seven footer under 200 lbs. Nah I'm good.

Wife is Durham born/raised, so I watch a lot a’ Duke ball. As far as potential bigs, 9 is way too early for him, but do we like Mark Williams’ game enough for the 20th or 25th? Great rim defender, can finish anything around the rim.

I see that they worked him out, too.

This was posted on Spurstalk recently:

But … Williams isn’t swift enough to defend out on the perimeter at a competent level — and likely never will be due to his imposing size. He’s a non-passer and processes the game slowly on the offensive end. While he hits free throws at a respectable mark, I don’t see him ever becoming a shooter of consequence.

Comparing Duren and Williams, Duren is the one with more potential. At 18, he’s the youngest lottery prospect and his rapid growth during his lone season at Memphis tells the tale that he’s just scratching the surface of what he one day may become. On the other hand, Williams looks ready to step into a starting role. The 20-year-old obviously has a lot to learn but he can be a shot-blocking and rebounding tower of menace on Day 1.

Unfortunately, neither Duren nor Williams appear capable of being the type of centers that can finish high-level playoff games in the modern landscape. They could play 20 to 25 minutes in a playoff game but when it’s money time, their lack of agility on defense and their lack of shooting on offense would combine to render them as bench ornaments.

Thirty years ago, Duren and Williams might have been the first and second selections in an NBA draft. Twenty years ago, they’d still both be in the top five. But today, right now, they’re borderline lottery prospects who play a role that, as scary as it sounds, is becoming increasingly obsolete.

Rest of the article is here: Should the Spurs Draft a Center...
