I'm 24 and I've seen all of those and so have most of the black people I know in my age group. I like them all, but my favorites are Love & Basketball, Set it off, Eve's Bayou, and The wood. I don't know any black people that haven't seen those.

Is this still a thing? Growing up it was assumed every Black person had seen "Lean On Me", "Boyz In The Hood", "Coming To America" "The Color Purple" and "House Party" Like didn't matter way you are from regionally, financial situation or whatever, you seen it, hell you probably seen it so damn much you know the words and everything(remember when grandma ain't have cable and like 5 VHS movies and 3 of them were probably one of these? or is that just me)

Is this a thing among the younger folk?. Do yall have movies like this like no matter who you are you had to have seen that shyt maybe a "Stomp The Yard" or "Drumline" or whatever the fukk was popular when yall was young and if so what are they.
I grew up watching all those movies but I'll have to say my two favorite hood movies to watch as a kid would be "clockers" and "squeeze". Honery mention "juice".

Notice that for the most part there's a wide variety in what people under 24 considered as "Must watch". I think the reason there's no concrete consensus is because there were just too many forms of entertainment during the noughties (2000s).

Say you're 24 in 2017 and by the time you could watch most of these "new age must watch movies" you were around 16 in high school. That was around 2009/2010. By then myspace already passed its peak, Facebook was just catching on, the Xbox360 had already been out for nearly 4 years and iPods were holding more and more songs.

Entertainment was less one way (sit in front of a screen) but far more interactive. More choices of entertainment, less likelihood of consuming certain movies. Also, there were just far more "black/hood" movies

That's my observation at least.
