People complain about the lack of Black celebs today who put out a positive image for young black males as opposed to what we had in years past, and I agree with that to a point.....seems we had a better mixture in the past with more positive role models, positive TV characters, etc

But younger black women nowadays have even less to pull to from, and many (who grow up fatherless or with irresponsible fathers) are learning about relationships, MARRIAGE, male/female dynamics from women like these :merchant:

Add that to the Instagram culture that inherently teaches a bad message and all you can do is :snoop: :wow: at where things appear to be heading

FOR SKRAIT MUSIC, SKIP TO THE END OF THE POST (EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST VIDEO)
When I was a teenager, I thought the Vistoso Bosses were really dope, even though they were a female group. I figured they were going to be the biggest success out of the Collipark roster (Soulja Boy, Ying Yang Twins, V.I.C)

They made catchy music for girls without being hoish or bratty.

Back in the day, this was the jam:

To this day, I'm still trying to figure out how it flopped so bad (peaked 48 on R&B/Hip Hop chart, never reached Hot 100)... I just don't think they got the needed push.:patrice:

Or maybe it was the fact Mr. Collipark was trying to promote them at hood spots. These girls weren't the typical R&B group (more alternative once I think about it) and we all know the hood isn't the most open minded place in the world. All the videos I could of them performing had less than excited audiences who I feel were a little too old for the subject matter.

What I liked the most was that they weren't afraid to be themselves, which is a trait all great artists have. If you watch the videos, you can see how the remain upbeat, not letting lame audiences affect their energy. They were cousins with the utmost chemistry. The way the two interacted with each other made the group as a whole very charismatic. I think it had to do with the fact that they were a genetic foil of a sort: one was extroverted, light skinneded, avg height and thick, while the other was introverted, darker, and twig skinny.

They had a bunch of skits and other shyt on their YT page which were okay. I think if they went the Disney/Nick route that they would've been huge, but Mr Collipark stated that it shouldn't have been "necessary." I think that was a big mistake.

Anyways, for unknown reasons, the girls broke up without explanation. One of them is now an instagram whore, while the other has no presence on the internet whatsoever.

Back in the day I was ready to stan these girls before I knew what stanning was a word :to:

A few tracks I liked

it's game over for Black youth period if we don't remove televisions from the homes and home school them

stop fukking worrying about your child being socially awkward because they don't go to public schools and get to hang around other children that will pump garbage in their heads 24/7

these Basketball wives/Love and Hip Hop hoes are nothing more than agents of white supremacy, helping destroy the Black family even more than it already is.

That's a parents failure :yeshrug: A library card is free, plus the library at school

Up until I was about 12, my mother never let me out of the house at the end of the school week if I didn't give her a thorough book report by that friday. I still watched TV and shyt, but most of that stuff didn't feel any more real to me than a fictional character in one of my books..........except Hey Arnold; Hey Arnold was a real nikka show :sadcam:

You sound like a conservative, trying to push ideals in no way parallel to reality. Give thanks to god that you were one if the lucky ones who had parents push intellectualism on you. Most kids are left to their own devices and they sure arent reading. And if they are reading its going to be fiction with a white pritagonist. No kid is going to randomly pick up a history book if he/she wants to read something.

those kids need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

 I'm only conservative when it comes to my money:smugdraper:

And my upbringing wasn't different from alot of my peers in my neighborhood during my adolescent years before high school. Mother was a teen mother, raised me by herself, working class, etc.

The only thing she did different was force s book in my hand at an early age until I started doing it on my own :yeshrug:

It starts with the parents. If it's not books, then it's has to be something else constructive and real, besides OD'ing on pop culture and media.

You made an interesting point, so I'll ask this: Why can't intellectualism become a reality for black children :mjpls:?
