So I've been binging Oz lately, and it's got me kinda interested in the prison system as it relates to life and the process of things; I came across this documentary, which happens to be one of the inspirations of the HBO TV series Oz.

The band performing at the beginning of this documentary apparently made the theme song for Oz; it's actually the same song they performed, but a stripped “bare bones” version is used for the TV show.

A lot happens in this documentary; we get a walk-through meeting some of the inmates and what they're in for, as well as a walk around to see many of the other parts of Rikers Island, pregnant women's side of Rikers, the AIDS ward, the gay zone, and a little analysis of the COs, among other things. I suggest y'all watch it, it's only an hour but very interesting :yeshrug:.

Maybe some of y'all might've seen this before, but for those who haven't, it's an interesting perspective. I don't know if Rikers is like that today. I was born in '95, but it was interesting to see how it was in the mid-90s.

This is the full documentary.

HBO had some really good Documentaries during the 90s

Of course, everyone remembers the “grape jelly” comment :dame:
