When the German Bundesliga restarted last week, while we were talking about how surreal it was to see pro sports back, it was even more surreal to see the games being played in near silence.

They gotta find some way to make it a 20,000 person zoom call that gets pumped in over the speakers. Costs $10 to have your voice be part of the background noise, audible on the court and to the TV audience both. For $100 you can have a front row seat and your voice is 10x louder than everyone else.

I'm kinda :lolbron: and kinda :ohhh: about that one.

and now, look

the wave has started :wow:

AGF Aarhus: Danish Superliga club create virtual grandstand for fans to watch game on Zoom

Staying in touch with friends and family, business meetings and quizzes - video calls have become a key part of life during the coronavirus pandemic.

And now Danish Superliga club AGF Aarhus are using the technology to bring 10,000 fans to the side of their pitch, despite the season being played behind closed doors when it restarts on Thursday.

At their home game against Randers, AGF will install a giant screen along the side of the pitch, creating what they call "the world's first virtual grandstand" so fans can support the team for free via Zoom - there will even be a section for away fans.

"It's about creating an atmosphere around the game so that the players will see that they have the support from the city even though there are no supporters in the stands," the project's co-ordinator Soren Carlsen told BBC World Service's Mani Djazmi.

"They will hear it, they will feel it and see it on this big screen alongside the pitch."

Carlsen says the idea came from a Danish TV show where artists sing from home and viewers join in via video link.

Three screens have been joined together to make a giant 40x2.8m screen with space for 200 fan images at a time. There will be 22 different sections for fans to choose from and TV coverage of the match will incorporate the virtual supporters.

"It will go alongside the pitch opposite the cameras, so the television station will also incorporate this in the coverage of the game," Carlsen added.

"For instance, you often cut to the spectators when you have a goal. Here, you will cut to the homes of our supporters and then you'll see them celebrate the goal whilst the players run alongside this screen.

"We have only had positive feedback from our fans and also from Randers who will have their own away stand in the virtual stadium.

"It's an opportunity for them to get a sense of the community that they experience around football because it's also about meeting people at the stadium, and here you'll get a chance to meet some of the people that you are usually sitting with during the games.

"We will see how it turns out Thursday night, and if it's fun and it's working then maybe we will do it again at the next game."

Any abusive language will result in expulsion from the meeting by a moderator.

"The same rule goes for Zoom as it does at the stadium," added Carlsen. "We will have some digital stewards and they will be monitoring it, just like the social media platforms at the club. So they can make sure that you don't see anything that you're not supposed to see, and you don't hear any profanities."

AGF are by no means the first club to try new ways to create an atmosphere behind closed doors.

Fellow Danish side FC Midtjylland are installing a drive-in screen at their stadium, while clubs around the world have used cardboard cutouts of fans to fill stadiums.

While in South Korea, FC Seoul were fined for filling empty seats with 'sex dolls'.

These pro sports leagues better watch it when they negotiate this new CBA. What’s going to end up happening is that states are going to hurry up and legalize sports gambling to help make up for loss revenue.

That gambling revenue is about to come in a lot sooner than they expect and hopefully they realize that during negotiation time.

too many possibilities of
I don't want that, I want them to turn up the volume of the players on the court/field
I wanna hear the communication :ehh:
And all that trash talk :mjlit:

yea all this fake noise, cardboard fan suggestions is nonsense :scust:

watching UFC w/o fans was different but after awhile, you appreciate hearing the kicks, punches, and corner comments :ehh:

lets hear that on court talk, coaching commentary and everything else :yeshrug: people needing all that extra stimulation while watching sports :hhh:

It'd be better I think hearing them communicate on the court like this all the time :ehh:

:pachaha:they actually did it.

Just the other day i was thinking man itd be crazy if they did some zoom hologram stuff for the fans.

I personally would be fine with no fans, ive watched plenty of incredible pickup games in empty gyms. To get that type of raw experience with the best players in the world would be a cool change of pace.
But this could also be cool if it works:ehh:

this can never realistically work

from dudes that already said hackers, to fans bombing the shyt with weird stuff
to paid promotions ... the noise thing would be a multi million dollar thing to get multiple (thousands) of people able to speak without frequency interference from all sides of the feild or court. Not even mentioning the quality and size of speakers they would need to pull that off. All of this is rushed out and incredibly dumb to satisfy people with nothing else better to do.

:heh:You realize professional sports literally exists to satisfy people who have nothing better to do, right?

Youre literally watching grown men run around in funny outfits and toss around inflatable toys playing games that are played at elementary schoolyards. What a huge waste of time and money right?

Its called entertainment for a reason. Do you know how much dumb, expensive, overly complicated stuff is normally included at live shows and concerts and pro sports venues just to enhance the viewing experience a little bit more? The whole point of the industry is to appeal to the fans.

while being wildly expressive about my opinion, all you did was expound on my one sentence and say the exact same thing I just said :yeshrug: yet still none of that really solves playing sports without fans. And none of that answers to how pay grades, and staffing, ownership, and stadium rental will be paid for, as long as this goes on. Playing this way is a huge step backwards for players, not only in a competition sense... but also money wise. Besides television money, and team sponserships. You are guarenteed to make millions less come next year. Basically you just get paid by however much Mcdonalds wants to pay to have a sign behind you and TV deals which would vary place to place. Without a draw you have absolutely no pull in the future if they plan on changing things this way and implementing it into the future. Rushing back to play and having it even 40% work would absolutely set you up for slave deals in the future in "Their" league.

If yall want this shyt back this bad, you should just sign insurance policies when you buy tickets, so if you get sick and die... you cant blame anyone else.
