New Professor Layton Title Announced
In the Level-5 Vision: The Beginning live stream, Level-5 has officially announced the date and title of the latest installment in the Professor Layton series.
The new game, titled Layton 7, will be published in "this year". The game will be available for the Nintendo 3DS, Android, and iOS, breaking the long tradition of Nintendo-only Layton handheld games.
The game, which follows the adventures of a Sherlock Holmes-inspired protagonist and his young sidekick, incorporates a variety of puzzles to help move along the story's narrative. This newest game will have a bit of a departure, as it now introduces a card game element featuring good and evil characters. The social aspect of connecting with other players will also factor in, as people will be able to achieve points from successfully answering trivia related to the game's environment.
Layton has been wildly successful the world over, even generating an animated movie back in 2009. The previous installment, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, was a crossover between the two game series, and achieved modest success, though perhaps lower than anticipated.
Further details, such as price and US release dates, have not yet been confirmed.
