Fresno, CA.
SonicSpike sends a report on a proposed update to the International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations which could shut down the sharing of files for 3D printed gun parts over the internet. "Hidden within the proposal, which restricts what gear, technology, and info can and cannot be exported out of the U.S., is a ban on posting schematics for 3D printed gun parts online." This follows a lawsuit from Cody Wilson and Defense Distributed back in May fighting the federal government's command to remove blueprints for the "Liberator" 3D-printed gun from their website. A senior official at the U.S. State Department said, "By putting up a digital file, that constitutes an export of the data. If it's an executable digital file, any foreign interests can get a hold of it."

The future of the soon to be heavily-regulated less anonymous Internet is going to be hand to hand transactions in real life.

Meet someone at a cafe and exchange cash for flash drives packed with piff or anything that might fall under the category of Warez.

Did you not understand what I said?

The government isn't that stupid.

Its about having a stance on something.
Um so what does that meaningless stance do? These are the same type of regulations that get taken off the books.for being quite useless.

I can get the gun bluperints offline and still use an unregistered gun.

It would make sense to rule on the use and registry of such weapons as they are by design anonymous.

It allows the government to SAY something

Its P.R.

Of course its not advantageous for ANY government to permit printing guns and fire-arm parts.

By speaking out, the government can say, "hey, just so you know, we're not cool with this. Its going to be hard to enforce, but we're on to you"

Great, and now you know that its illegal. Thats the point

Same with torrenting.

They DID rule on it.

look at how we're treating drones. These laws will get refined in the future but getting out ahead of a growing problem is what they are doing.

It's actually not illegal if passed around offline it doesn't say anything about that hence my whole argument. All this is tackling is method of distribution not legal status..

Fam, you want it to be one thing, but its a whole other thing.

You're trying to argue with me about legality...i'm talking about a whole other point about government acknowledgment.

The government doesn't want people downloading guns.

They're trying to speak out and dissuade people from doing so.
