Prosecutors pushing for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to spend at least 11 years in prison

Prosecutors urged a New York federal judge on Tuesday to lock Sean “Diddy” Combs up for more than 11 years when he’s sentenced on prostitution charges later this week — arguing the “unrepentant” hip-hop mogul has left his victims living in fear.
The disgraced music mogul, 55, is due to be sentenced on Friday after he was convicted of setting up baby oil-fueled sex romps with escorts who traveled across state lines, following a salacious sex crimes trial this summer.
“His crimes of conviction are serious and have warranted sentences over ten years in multiple cases for defendants who, like Sean Combs, engaged in violence and put others in fear,” prosecutors wrote in court papers filed shortly after midnight.

The filing included letters from Combs’ accusers — including his ex-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura — describing how his violence has impacted their lives.
Ventura, who was nine months pregnant when she testified for four grueling days at Combs’ trial, described how she still has nightmares and flashbacks from the trauma inflicted during their 11-year relationship.
“My worries that Sean Combs or his associates will come after me and my family is my reality,” Ventura wrote.
“I have in fact moved my family out of the New York area and am keeping as private and quiet as I possibly can because I am so scared that if he walks free, his first actions will be swift retribution towards me and others who spoke up about his abuse at trial.”
Combs was spared a potential life sentence in July when jurors found him not guilty of the two most serious charges: racketeering and sex trafficking.
The trial nonetheless shed light on the Bad Boy Records founder’s depraved treatment of Ventura, whose career he helped launch after meeting her when she was a 19-year-old aspiring artist.

Combs used his control over Ventura’s career, repeated beatings and threats to release sex tapes to coerce her into continuing to perform sex acts with male escorts — twisted encounters Combs dubbed “freak-offs,” she testified.
“I hope that your decision considers the truths at hand that the jury failed to see,” Ventura wrote Tuesday.
“I know that who he was to me — the manipulator, the aggressor, the abuser, the trafficker — is who he is as a human. He has no interest in changing or becoming better. He will always be the same cruel, power-hungry, manipulative man that he is.”
Combs faces up to 20 years behind bars after he was convicted of two prostitution counts for arranging for male sex workers to travel across state lines to participate in the “freak-offs.

He argued that the encounters were consensual.
The feds on Tuesday called Combs “unrepentant,” and urged that his sentence reflect the “decades of unchecked violence” and “decades of psychological, emotional, and physical damage he has inflicted.”
“He is not the victim,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.
“The court should focus on the very real effects that the defendant’s conduct had on the lives of the actual victims, his victims.”
Combs’ lawyers last week urged the judge to impose a 14-month sentence and release him on time served from the Brooklyn federal lockup where he’s been held since his September 2024 arrest.
“In the past two years, Mr. Combs’ career and reputation have been destroyed. He has served over a year in one of the most notorious jails in America — yet has made the most of that punishment,” his lawyers wrote to Judge Arun Subramanian last week.

“It is time for Mr. Combs to go home to his family, so he can continue his treatment and try to make the most of the next chapter of his extraordinary life … It is the only just and fair sentence that could be imposed.”
The attorneys argued that the evidence of abuse detailed by Combs’ former girlfriends during the trial shouldn’t be considered given that jurors acquitted him of coercing them into sex.

Prosecutors countered on Tuesday that “the defendant will not be punished for any crimes of which he was acquitted, of course, but punishment for his crimes of conviction must take into account the manner in which he committed them.”
At trial, two of Combs’ former girlfriends — Ventura and a woman using the alias “Jane” — testified that they felt forced to participate in the drug-fueled sex romps as he watched and often filmed.
