NOW LOOK: I appreciate and love the passion and fervor of the protesters who've been out in the streets exercising their constitutional right of free speech and right to assemble. Looking at the protesters in the last 2 or so weeks has been moving and indicates that there is hope of awareness in today's youth that transcends all racial/ethnic backgrounds.
BUT....what greater problems is lying down in the middle of the street going to solve? Other than being a great photo op and drawing awareness to the obvious (cops can be prejudiced murderers), how does lying down in the street, or even protesting in general, address issue of police brutality and the core issues in the black community.
Call me cynical but I think there are more productive ways for our community to express our displeasure with the inherently racist power structure--and to combat it. Lying down in the middle of the streets uttering "I can't breathe" for hours just seems so contrived and empty.
