UPDATE:
Sony can’t keep up with demand for the Vita in NA

http://www.vg247.com/2014/07/02/vita-stock-shortage-north-america/

Not only was the PS Vita almost completely absent from Sony’s E3 showing, but now seems to be absent from major U.S. retailers as well. All of the Vita models and packages — even the recently released Borderlands 2 bundle that included the new model — are no longer available directly from Amazon, GameStop, Walmart or Target. Physical stores also seem to be out of the handheld, as searches for stock and calls to local outlets came up with zero results.

GameStop has a Borderlands bundle with an accessory and PS Plus voucher for pre-order, but it won’t be in stock until August.

At the moment, it’s unclear why stocks have diminished across the board; whether retailers are choosing to no longer stock the retails, have sold out, or if Sony has not been replenshing stocks. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment and will update the article with any applicable information.

I was so close to getting one :whew: copped the Wii U instead. Still was thinking of picking one up around August but when I looked it up no one had them and third parties were on Amazon charging way more than retail :comeon: Seems like they should be going for the low but I guess supply and demand is a mug.

They need to lower those memory card prices.
Sony needs to drop the Vita all together. It's never gonna take off because the majority of adults aren't gonna carry around a dedicated gaming device. It has a niche appeal and Sony can't really afford to be in dead end dealings with their financial troubles as of late.

I think the fact that the Vita TV was renbranded the Playstation TV says all that needs to be said about the Vita.

Raising the buy in price with hardware nobody gives a damn about isnt a good idea.

PSTV seems like more of a reaction to Sony realizing that the handheld market is diminishing and their competitors are better at maneuvering in the market than a move to disassociate themselves from the Vita. Yes, its a dead platform at this point, but what good would it do for Sony to completely abandon it and piss off their strongest consumer following(these are obviously the only people who picked one up at this point)?

PSTV also coincides with Sony moving towards streaming their content and those plans have probably been in the works before the Vita even hit store shelves.
