PS3 is outselling Xbox One in Japan 26 to 1. Wait, what?

While Sony has happily revealed a new version of the PS4 launching in the region at the end of the month, it appears that Microsoft just can't catch a break in Japan. As reported by Kotaku, between June 8th and June 14th, the Xbox One sold only 100 units, reaching a new all time low in terms of sales.
To put that figure into context, the PS3 sold 2633 units in the same week. Yes, that last gen console. Clearly no one wants to play Sunset Overdrive. The new 3DS XL is at the top of the Media Create Japanese console chart with 19,320 units while the Wii U sits at number two with 16,413. The PS4 completes the top three with 10,822. Even the Vita TV is selling five times more than Xbox One with 566 units being taken home.

Microsoft has already voiced discontent with sales in Japan, with a weak launch period but this is further proof that the console just doesn't have a market in the country. Poor Xbox One.

They should just bail out of Japan all together. It's a waste of time and they've always been awful over there. If I were Microsoft I'd be more worried about trying to recover the European userbase.

Recover what fanbase? They never had the Euro fanbase, just the UK last gen. It's gone right back to Playstation just like everywhere else on the planet.

Recover what fanbase? They never had the Euro fanbase, just the UK last gen. It's gone right back to Playstation just like everywhere else on the planet.

There's no doubt that Playstation has a bigger userbase in Europe, but the 360 had a very sizeable proportion as well hence why the world wide numbers for both systems was/is so close.
25 million units = no fanbase? That's significant, that's what they probably they need to use their Japanese marketing budget for, getting back those fans or getting those who haven't purchased a console yet. I'm sure they already know this though......

didn't say no fanbase. Europe = PS Country. 360 was an abherration due to the year head start and price. One of the reasons Sony caught up last gen was due to Europe and Asia since the got washed in the US.

I'm not refuting that. Basic business and math will tell you however that just because a rival competitor has a larger market in the area doesn't mean you shouldn't try to increase your marketshare if you're still profitable in that region. The difference between Europe and Asia is that, Xbox has proven it can be profitable in Europe even if it's playing second fiddle to Sony, which makes it worth it to focus your attention there instead of a region where you're literally selling 100 units a week.

Spent the last 4 months out there in Europe and man it's just not looking good for Xbox there breh. Them shyts are all over the place collecting dust in the Game stores, Tescos and shyt in Europe. It's only really selling in the UK. Dunno why they don't cut the price more in Europe.
