Sony has just announced that virtual reality is coming to the PS4. It's called Project Morpheus. P

Sounds Like Sony Is Working On A VR Gaming Headset

First rumoured last year, the Sony headset puts the PlayStation 4 in a strange place in the gaming landscape, setting it apart from the Xbox One while offering a similar experience to the PC's Oculus Rift.P

Part of the announcement involved footage of a VR God of War, PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida saying "When I looked down, I saw my body was that of Kratos. That was an empowering experience."P

Yoshida directly referenced the Oculus Rift in his presentation, saying "I have an enormous amount of respect for them, and we were inspired and encouraged by the enthusiastic reactions of developers and journalists who tried [the Oculus Rift]".P

Note that the headset, pictured above, is not the unit's final design, as Sony is still working on it.

What a nice thread :heh:
Well, the story says how sony was inspired by Oculus Rift
So that means sony's version is probably about 3yrs off.

You probably didn't know Xbox One has Augmented Reality glasses that are scheduled to drop this year, 2014 bruh

And then Microsoft began to hit all these websites with Cease & Desist orders which only go out when REAL INFO is being leaked :win:

In case you wanna call this fake, you can peep the patents that been in place
http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PG01&s1=20130196757.PGNR.&OS=DN/20130196757RS=DN/20130196757
Here’s what Microsoft patented:
A system and related methods for inviting a potential player to participate in a multiplayer game via a user head-mounted display device are provided. In one example, a potential player invitation program receives user voice data and determines that the user voice data is an invitation to participate in a multiplayer game.

The program receives eye-tracking information, depth information, facial recognition information, potential player head-mounted display device information, and/or potential player voice data. The program associates the invitation with the potential player using the eye-tracking information, the depth information, the facial recognition information, the potential player head-mounted display device information, and/or the potential player voice data.

The program matches a potential player account with the potential player. The program receives an acceptance response from the potential player, and joins the potential player account with a user account in participating in the multiplayer game.

And finally to bring you up to speed, video of the glasses (not in use) sitting next to the kinect

And an explanation as to why it is what it is. But this level of detail, you can't get on neogaf
you can't find it on IGN. Its what Courtdog brings to the table. Its also why he's gonna hold it down when he gets his chance :blessed:

It’s also worth noting the video in which we spotted these glasses is hosted by Soho Productions’ Lead Developer Kyle Lampe. Soho is the Microsoft studio dedicated to creating “experiences not bound by the definitions of television or gaming. These are experiences where watching and participating are inseparable and combined together into never before seen products.”

Back in September, Eurogamer interviewed Soho studio boss Phil Harrison and asked if MS planned on supporting Oculus Rift or creating a VR headset of its own. Here’s how Harrison replied: “There are many business and technical reasons that would have to be overcome, so I’m not going to talk specifically about any brand or partner. But we’ve put USB 3.0 ports on Xbox One to facilitate high bandwidth connection with peripheral devices, so technically you could imagine a wide variety of devices being attached to Xbox One. What those actually are and when they show up is a different discussion.”
Any other questions

Anything like this on console is doomed to failure because people won't support it because they are cheap. People nowadays just wait for games to be free on PS Plus to play them. I buy everything, I'd get it but like everyone knows, or should know, Oculus Rift is going to sell, this.....I don't know.
