Sony owns the IP, so yes. They originally wanted it to be an Oblivion clone but Miyazaki took over the project and did his own thing. The history of how the game turned out the way it did is actually interesting. I’d suggest reading up on it or watching a youtube video

They had the chance to own the dark souls series but they had no faith in demons soul. They probably could have bought from software back then too.
