just bought a psp 1000 not to long ago for $50, they're hard to find though. Shyt is easy to hack though.
You should go with the psp original or the psp go much cheaper.

the screen on the vita is easily the best, but you can't play umd games... so I would say it depends on whether or not you are wanting to play games on umd or will you be satisfied with digital releases? I personally say the Vita would be worth it because the scanlines on my psp3000 are very noticeable and distracting.

Although the 3000 may have improved contrast compared to the 2000, the scanlines of the 3000 seriously degrade the imagine quality. Unfortunately the 2000 suffers from ghosting if I recall correctly.

The Vita screen is very noticeably superior that on the PSP. Go here for some comparison screens:

I just recently did this to a psp. It's as easy as download, drag and drop. Original actual arcade (not a watered down port)games capcom, neo geo, midway etc.

But playing emulators in a system, I'm under the assumption that the console has to be jtag'ed or rgb(sp). Which basiclly means taking the console apart and adding wires.

If you are going to do this to a 360 you have to have certain type of console(older dashboard, serial number). Not sure about about the ps3.

I'm just going to get a cheap version laptop and put all the emulators on it and connect it to my tv.

for emulators I'd go with the PSP 1000 models or 2000. 1000 should be your goal.

I dont know how homebrew and apps run using the Vita exploit so I cant say anything about it.

I still have my Pandora's battery and Magic MS:yes: got rid of my PSP a few month before I got my Vita tho.

I dont have the games to do it. and I just wanna got unmodded this time.

you have to buy a certain game to run the exploits...but sony just releases a patch and/or removes the game.

just wanna keep it simple this time. I loved my modded PSP tho:noah:
