Prophets of Rage Reveal Lineup, Announce First Show
Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk, Chuck D and B-Real are Prophets of Rage and they will play their inaugural show tonight. The group revealed the details this morning while in studio with Kevin & Bean.
“This is a Woodstock moment for us,” says Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Chuck D. “This is our Crosby Stills and Nash, Woodstock moment.”
“Dangerous times do demand dangerous songs,” says Morello. “This historical moment is really unprecedented. Both the country and the world are on the brink of the abyss. And, we thought it was wholly irresponsible of us to be sitting on the sidelines when we have a catalog of material like we do between the three of us to go out and fight the power, to take the power back, to bring the noise, to rise up, to use four songs that we may or not be playing tonight.”
“It’s a historical necessity,” continues Morello. The last time Rage played in LA we out-drew Trump, Clinton and Bernie Sanders by about a margin of three times. This is not just music, this is a movement.”
According to B-Real, group had practiced in secrecy for nearly a month.
The band did address the absence of Rage’s singer. “It takes me and B-Real to do Rage-ified Zach de la Rocha songs so a marching salute out to him,” says Chuck D. Rage members spoke to de la Rocha about their plans to form a super group and according to Wilk they received his blessing to move forward.
“This is not Rage Against the Machine and this is not Cypress Hill or Public Enemy, it’s a super group; one of the greatest super groups ever,” insists Chuck D.
But Morello disagrees with Chuck D’s assessment. “I don’t look at it like a super group,” he says. “I look at it like it’s an elite task force of revolutionary musicians come together at a historical moment to stir s— up.”
Prophets of Rage will play the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood tonight (May 31). Tickets go on sale at 10am PT for $20 at the Whisky box office; one ticket maximum per person on a first come first served basis. Wristband holders can line up at 5pm. Doors open at 7pm for the 9:30 show.
“Today the Whisky, tomorrow the world,” says Morello.
