I'm not saying he shouldn't try. I'm saying if someone who's currently a multi-billionaire and turned around a successful sports franchise is denied twice to buy an MLB franchise, then Puffy's road is going to be pretty damn bumpy.

If Puffy really wants to own a sports franchise, maybe he should consider the NHL. It's a lot cheaper to become a majority owner there and I'm guessing with all the work stoppages a lot easier path. Plus their salary cap is about $50 million less than the NFL and a little lower than the NBA.

This is true. Diddy's team will structure it to where he's a 50.1% owner but he'll be backed by various investment groups. Diddy's total investment probably wouldn't be as much as you think.

One of the first tenets of private equity is to use as much institutional debt and other peoples' money as possible to make your total outlay smaller. As time goes on, you pay them down, and get the returns on exit.
