:coffee:All folks had to do was vote. We have to see what this country ends up looking like in a years time for people to understand we crossed the fukking rubicon.
As an organization If a significant amount of your funding or contracts come from the federal government you really have no choice but to bend the knee
This is absolutely true. A lot of people don't understand how much the Federal government contributes to public good. When the funding dries up, a lot of things that are no profit-driven are going to flat out disappear. There are states having fires and other natural disasters that may not see a dime of help. Businesses and institutions who take in government dollars will find giant fukking holes in them soon, leading to more job losses. At this point, folks should be less shocked at the capitulation. It's pretty obvious now that even cash-flush places can't afford to play chicken with the fukking federal government. We collectively punted good governance and have to see the effects of that shyt.

Its disturbing how almost every institution is bending the knee. Colleges, corporations and law firms.

maybe it was all about money and public opinion, rather than principle after all.

that's obvious if you see how "liberated lefty" american companies have for decades fallen in with racist behavior when operating overseas.

i don't see american companies insisting on fair opportunities when operating in germany, eastern europe, etc.

white mike points this out in his seminal ted talk.

Doc Ban,

We are here. Eventually he will try to alter Black Studies Depts. at HBCUs . In North Carolina, magas in state legislature are using Trump momentum to remove DEI depts and course requirements for public colleges.
Black History and Studies depts will be next.
Certain that those plans are in the works in every state that has Historically Black colleges.

Trump attacked the top endowment schools in multiple ways. Fact that they conceded shows that a majority of their dozens of billionaire/millionaire alumni/donors agree with the direction that Trump is taking.

Probably.

The only thing about HBCUs is that they have an advantage of a Black student body and culture that will either massively resist/protest those moves or move it underground in a way that facilitates teaching without being overt.

Also, and this may surprise people, the ethnic/gender studies departments at most HBCUs aren't that big and are often folded into the general history department. Most don't have Black studies majors like PWIS. 90% of the ethnic/gender studies specific majors come from only two schools---Spelman and Howard.

These White schools will likely see their Black Studies purged with minimal peep since their Black numbers are already getting reduced due to SCOTUS.

The down Jewish students will probably advocate against these double standards but this battle is being fought at a much higher level.

He's so unpredictable, I'm not sure if this helps or hurts them. On the surface it helps, but it creates a backlash as well.

The right is vwishy-washy when it comes to their interests.

Part of Right is for them, for Evangelical reasons, but the other part wants to send them to the camps.

Creating a two tier hierarchy.. that is not gonna go well.

America will never recover from this era..
Not a sure thing, but we will be planting seeds for our kids to eventually pick fruits from it's trees.
Not in our lifetime at least
Exactly. Thanks to old and young white racists broadly, we have to enter a period of deep dark shyt. It's really enough to have folks on their James Baldwin shyt.

Two things Americans, those who aren't complete fukking idiots, will learn in say...the coming decade:

1. How the Nazi's came to power despite it being an obviously bad movement.

2. How regular people get radicalized, and i'm not talking about the Nazis. A lot of people are a firing, seeing a loved one deported/abducted, seeing their lives work going up in smoke, watching their retirement vanish, not being able to get treatment for an easily curable condition due to their hospital closing, or any number of other things away from showing up to certain places hosting certain people doing certain things that takes us down a direction we have not been down since the Civil War. Depending on how you look at things, no matter WHAT your lot in life is, there is an existential threat to the country and everyone in it powered by and extremely small number of extremely rich folks.

I will forever wonder why he chose france. France is no better than here. probably worse if you consider how they treat their black people and the multicentury fckery they pulled with Haiti.

I mean for godsake, france engaged in a colonial, racist , clusterfck war with Africa less than 2 years after Baldwin moved to Paris.

For someone of his intelligence and level of racial consciousness, i would have pegged him for a return to Africa kinda guy. That same anger should be felt in Europe. So his message is somewhat hollow. Its as though Baldwin blindfolded himself right after leaving the arrivals terminal at Charles DeGaul Airport.

Anger at the devil he knew, perhaps. He might have found Paris more pleasant overall despite it’s shortcomings.

Post war Europe and post-war USA would have been markedly different.
France had former slave colonies, and (then) current colonial territories, but the history and interactions between the races played out differently there, than in France itself.

Europe didnt see significant numbers of Black people until people from their colonies were recruited to help rebuild the countries aftet WW2.

The US was one of former slave colonies of Europe, and the systems of slavery and jim crow had shaped the way society operated .Including the long history of racist laws and policies against the formerly enslaved.

Black Ex-pats were seeking a reprieve from the brutal oppressive systems here, and relatively speaking some of them found it in France. Some found it in Russia.

Also France would have an appeal to artists, as it has been one of centers for the arts for centuries .
