We can't just say nothing works because Obama didn't manage to get every gang member in the nation to lay down their guns (without sending them to prison), get a GED and start working. Which some people seem to think.

The most important thing is to hold congress and the WH, over multiple terms. Right now, the republicans hold ⅔ chambers and people wonder why Obama can't do what he wants. I don't even know why I read about politics on the internet, it's just frustrating.

People like to think that we are not progressing as a community but we are according to statistics. shyt is bad but it was worse and it could've been worse if it wasn't for Obama and Clinton, and those are the only two democratic presidents for the past 36 years.

As far as the prison reform goes, have people forgot that it was the black community pushing for it? And celebrating Clinton for being president while crime in black communities was reduced drastically during his terms. People were mad that Washington for not giving a fukk about crime in black communities as long as it didn't affect them, people like to forget. That's why I could never be a politician or hold any public office where I have to answer to the public, cat's got fish memory and always want to blame someone. He took a strategic decision which he though was pro-black, as it was black people calling for it. It turned out to be failure and unlike most politicians, he flat out admitted that it was his biggest mistake and his wife seeks to fix it unlike most candidates that came after him.

That's why history is both irrelevant and relevant. If Clinton is the only one talking about fixing that shyt, how relevant is the fact that they were apart of it's construction.

I agree that local government has more weight regarding local communities. And that people don't research any level of government. Specially not costs and benefits, from studying economics the most important thing I took with me is that just because something sound good in theory doesn't mean that it will work in practice. Politicians are like sales men, and unlike electronics policy making is so complex that not even the smartest and most informed know what the outcome will be.

However, if you are a lazy dem voter the democrat who the smart democrats in your community vote for is generally a pretty good choice. It might not be the best but it'll most likely be one of the best.
