I'am 90's hip-hop & rnb baby, didn't grow up listening to any of the classic soul records. Where should I start? Drop some essential albums. I'm trying to deepen my love for hip-hop and understand the music that came before it.
Curtis Mayfield Superfly
Sly and the Family Stone- Riot Going On
Marvin Gaye- What’s Goin On
Stevie Wonder-Songs in the Key of Life
Bill Withers-Just as I Am
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes Greatest Hits
These are all super obvious and all these artists have other pantheon level albums as well but it’s a good place to start.
