Q-Tip put the whole group in the production credits because he said he didn't want to outshine anyone or "have any separation" between them.
That's why he was beefing with Phife because he said he shared credit with them even though he was the only one doing the beats. His equipment was at Phife's grandmother's house in her basement, so he had to go over there to make all the beats he was doing up until '95. But he split the money made with the group, even though he was the one doing all the work. He said, "I could've kept all the money and the credit but I wanted us to shine as a unit".
So even on outside production he did for other people, he always told labels to put "produced by A Tribe Called Quest". After '95, he said he stopped doing that.

I fukking love the first three De La albums, like adore them shyts from when I was a kid till today. Prince Paul is a genius, and low-key that's De La Soul to me - everything after is....ok.
....but still Tip. Prince Paul made three legendary albums. But Tip and those Tribe albums transcend to another plane of existence that De La came close to, but never reached.
