Police shot and killed a man in Queens on Sunday morning after he tried to attack a cop with a utility knife, authorities said.
Police received a complaint overnight about a man threatening people with a knife at New York Hospital Queens in Flushing, authorities said. Police were patrolling the area around 8:30 a.m., spotted a man who fit the description of the suspect and tried to apprehend him in front of the Carlyle Towers Apartments on Kissena Boulevard, police said.
The 29-year-old suspect then lunged at a sergeant with the utility knife, missing him, authorities said. An officer fired twice, hitting the suspect in the chest, police said
Another knife was found in the suspect’s pocket after he was shot, police said.
He died at New York Hospital. Police are withholding his name until his family has been notified.
Three officers and the sergeant were treated for tinnitus.
