I have an older laptop and recently upgraded my internet speed to 1GB. I was informed by the technician that my laptop cannot even connect to the router so it will top out at 50 mbps. He said that i would have to get a newer-model laptop bc most of them can connect to a dual-band router and the 1GB speed would be no problem for a newer one. Is there a device that I can buy for my current laptop that will allow it to connect to the router so i can get the GB speed without buying a new computer?

edit: i had a router already when i upgraded speeds but the router will only top out at 50 mbps. they gave me a newer router that will go to the 1 GB speed but my old-ass laptop cannot pick it up.

U can only get 1gb speed by wire connecting to your modem. Depending how old ur laptop is, your network interface may not be able to handle that throughput.

If your laptop is older than 5 years, its time to send it to bolivia. If not, try and find a usb adapter that can plug in and make use of that speed.
