What do i need to know to create a forum? Ive been searching and apparently id only need to know about php, sql, and some linux stuff. I already know the basic about php and sql, so how much about all of these would i need exactly?
Plus id need some help, i can imagine it would take a lot of time to do it by myself, is it possible to do it between like 3 people?

PS. not trying to compete with The coli though, its something different :whoa:

I think vb runs on windows server too. I could be wrong but im almost sure we had it at the place where i interned

But my homegirl used to run the opamizik forums (haitian forum) and ran it from her basement. Hers ran on linux.. i believe it was redhat. It doesnt take much to install either. Just basic linux skills

You trying to host yourself? I wouldn't recommend it...spend the <$50 to be worry free

I dont know yet, is there any pros about hosting myself?

I would say no, just because the pros of having a dedicated host greatly outweigh hosting yourself. You don't have to worry about shyt but content

Hmm ok, so id just spend on the host, domain, what else?

Well, you're talking about owning a forum? You can go the free route, google "free forum software review" in google, and your host and domain name would be your only costs.

You can pay for the software, starting around $150 bucks for barebones, more for customization. Assuming you can code yourself enough to get the functionality and placement that you want.

Quite a bit of customization goes into a site like the Coli and the owners put real money into it. It's a well put together forum aesthetically and functionality wise, imo.

Yea id own a forum, im aware of the expenses but i got some money to put into it. I already searched for the free ones but they all look terrible, and id like something professional. Do you know how much of code id need to know to customize it and insert some nice functions?
