As a kid when everybody else wanted to be rappers, athletes and actors but, I wanted to be a ceo :ld: I've been trying to start my own business ever since 18. I'm 27. I've had one business nearly take off. I was making good money but, after a year it crashed. I read one-two books a week (finance/econ/management/leadership). Always trying to acquire knowledge. Right now I'm just saving money to put to the next idea. I want to start an online business. But my friend and I have been bouncing around this app idea for the last 2 years. Problem is neither of us know how to program, so after wasting a year, we decided to spend this year learning to code. But it hasn't moved as fast as I'd hope. Which makes me think we should just go back to something more related to our skill sets (business grad). And then paying someone to build the app (or another app) years down the line. I think about it everyday, every hour. Makes matters worse that my younger cousin (by four years) has a business already that's printing money, talking $20,000-$30,000 a month. I try not to compare myself but, it's hard :mjcry:

AAU stuff

I have my own career, so I don't need a job from him. I want my own business. There's slight envy seeing him do what I trying to do in less time. That's why I try to be extremely supportive not to come off like a hater eventhough I am a bit :francis:

I don't want to tell too much because he might read this. I got love for him. I'm reading Rich Dad Poor Dad and it's amazing how true that book is because I'm more educated. I went to a very respected school. He did community college. But yet I'm slaving away for the man while he's sitting on more cash than most people have at retirement. Life is funny. It shows how much this school shyt doesn't matter.

He moved out of state with his girlfriend. Started a sports camp in a small town where there wasn't much sport activities for children. Made a killing. Then opened another location in another state. Started a basketball team in that state, in addition to the camp. Opened a daycare for his girl to run with the profits. All at 23. He's very successful.

My app is in the same sphere as "Groupon" but, different. It has nothing to do with sports.

Age 18

Eventually I started an ecommerce site. I worked on that all throughout college. Sold it. Opened another business. Didn't like it. It wasn't a good fit for me. Moved on to other ventures. Here I am, 30 years old. So proud that the 13 year old me knew that I would never grow to have an employable personality. That's what it comes down to for me. I am not unpleasant, but I do not have an employable personality. Also, I never wanted my kids to be in daycare. Therefore I need to do what works for me and my overall goals.

9-5 ain't for me. Me being a grown man taking orders from not just white people, but people in general just doesn't sit well with me. I want to be 100% in control.

I love a woman who gets her hustle on. Props on your past and future endeavors! I got a question tho because I have two ideas for products that are hot and trending right now that I want to push on a ecommerce site.

Once you get your site up and running, what's your marketing strategy to get the word out? I know it depends on the target audience tho. Mine will be health and fitness. How did you tackle it when you started?

I know this was not directed at me but ive been doing internet marketing and web design since 2010 so i thought id pitch in.

E-Commerce is all about two things. SEO and a great site. You need a design that's eye catching but still makes navigating your store easy and fun. Also it SHOULD NOT take more than 3 clicks to get me to pay. Meaning click one I add to cart, click 2 I view cart and verify price including tax (if applicable) and shipping, and click three i finish checking out by giving my credit card info. You want to get peoples money quick because we are impulsive buyers. If its hard to buy from your site then im personally not going to buy. Thats number one.

Number two is original content, aka SEO. SEO is very simple. The more original content you produce for your site/keywords, the higher google ranks you. I've written over 7K articles so ive seen first hand what a steady stream of good original content can do.

And dont just think writing. Think youtube, pictures, etc. If you want me to buy your product show me and tell me why its so good. Or inform me about fitness related matters and have that product you're talking about for sale in the store.

FOR EXAMPLE: Lets say i google resistance bands and stumble on your site. I want to be able to read about your particular bands, why they are good, why muscle groups can i train with them, and how they will benefit me overall. Every time you mention that specific resistance band you hyperlink it so by the end of the article all they have to do is click on the link to go buy, IN THREE STEPS.

I can go deeper if you really bout that life, let me know.

@PewPew Good look fam! What tools do you use to look the market for trends?

If you have a product and the market is saturated bit still has high demand how do you navigate around that? No you drill it down to a lower niche crowd?

Truth and logic

Things were a little bit different back then. It was easier to rank sites quickly and there wasn't as much competition. On the plus side, now there are tools that I didn't have to. There was no Amazon sellers option. There was no Instagram or Facebook ads.

I suppose the same strategies I used would work, it just would take longer. I wouldn't expect instant results unless you have a hefty budget. If not, then it's good old fashioned elbow grease. It's easy to get a website up. It's not easy to generate enough traffic to make a substantial amount of money. That's why most people fail.

If you have melanin, I can give you some suggestions.
