Are you talking about the state or the city?
A lot of New York City folks do not identify with upstate New York, that being all of New York north of Yonkers.

I wouldn't say is wack but it's weaker. Manhattan is completely plastic now. The outer boros still have the old NY feel in certain neighborhoods but those will become few and far between.
