Long story short I been at this job two months and Im about to start applying to others, for various reasons. Probably a dumb question but im going to ask it anyway, given the small time range I wanted to tell prospective employers Im on a short term contract (im not) that ends next month and thats why im looking for jobs so suddenly. Will a background check catch it or am I better off coming clean

Maaaan....you may get away with it but I’d just say this current job had some practices that you couldn’t get with or there was a very toxic environment.

I just feel it ain’t worth it to lie. I’ve been tempted at times but na man. F that.

I'm not against lying in the professional/business world, but only under certain circumstances. Yours is not one of those. Make sure you have a solid reason for wanting to leave when you talk to other companies.

Yeah not worth lying about. If you have a bunch of employers where you left quickly its a red flag but not one. Just be honest.

I agree with everyone else. It’s only a red flag if it appears you just left because you didn’t like it because of the job duties or it wasn’t your type of job. Then they ask what’s going to keep you from thinking the same here. I’ve been with my job 5 months now after leaving a job I was at for 4 months (basically same situation). My job interview I said that I did not like the environment. Make it a point to state that it was more so the people as you did not feel comfortable there. Key word is hostile environment. If it’s not that say whatever else it is. But the more honest you are the less they will press your employer about how u were as an employee. I don’t even think my hr even called them after I told them why I left old job. They felt bad and figured it was a good reason... when in reality I really was just tired of the white folks there and the job payed too little. Do not mention the old job didn’t pay enough. Don’t talk about salary. Don’t lie tho if they ask. Cuz they can find out through your hr.

If your white you are looking for better opportunities. If black you come off selfish and lazy. That’s how they view it. So play it smart. You don’t want to come off like you think you deserve better, because that’s just a ungrateful cocky ****** to them. Play it cool

Im just getting back to this thread but thanks to all that replied. I agree with the consensus in here..I'm just going to be honest. I realized after posting I have a real alibi to use if need be. Company is moving their location early next year, not going to be a reasonable commute for me and they aren't paying relocation.
