Question for those that have been to DR recently (or are currently there)

-Do you feel that people are following Covid protocols better or worse than in your home country?

-I know that you don't have to show proof of vaccination to enter the country, but is there a need to have a negative PCR test?

-What are you doing for money? ATM? Do you use credit card, is Discover Card accepted over there, or do you just go and exchange some money at a currency exchange every time you need some?

-Also, what part of DR are you staying in, or did you recently visit?

I am bank of america and Scotia bank is an alliance.

But I didn't get time to get money before coming. But I'm using Banco popular for withdrawals
No debit cards usage for me outside of that.

People are wearing masks in some cases. I was in a casino last night and pretty much no one was wearing mask. Nightclub was packed till the point my shirt was drenched.

No test needed to get into DR when I came, Jan 13th. But you need a 24hr test to leave to go back to america

So you're saying that because you use Bank of America in the US, you are able to access banco popular in the DR (or do you also have a banco popular account in the US)? The fact that you said that there's an alliance, does that mean that ATM withdrawals are free of charge?

I guess even though I'm double vaccinated, I would still need to get the 24-hour test before returning to the US. Any idea what the cost for one would be?

Thanks for the story about the casino. I don't think I've ever seen anybody mention them here on this site. Do you actually dare to do any gambling in there, or are you just going for the nightclub aspect?

use that to get your miney from ATMs and not the FOREX.

also get a credit card with no Forgien fees like the Amazon Prime visa. Carry cash and the Credit card with you and leave your schwab card in a safe so at least if you get robbed or pickpocketed you still have cash access and they dont run ya pockets

What’s the DR like? Isn’t on the same landmass as Haiti? I’ve always wondered about possible animosity between the two countries. I was on a beach in DR off a cruise a few years ago but can’t say I’ve experienced much of the country?

I know some people building a house there for retirement. Would any of ya’ll make the move?

Read this regarding the banks but I recommend the scwab card like the other poster said.

The casino, aspect , take the same precautions you would in the states but make sure you have a understanding of the minimum bets in their currency so you aren't playing foolishly. Confirm the odds for payouts so you know the expectations.

Last night the roulette table was fun as hell, it was a mix of Haitian, German, Canadians Norwegians, Americans and of course Dominicans playing.

Regarding covid, check the government sites, I believe the testing can run from anywhere from 2k peso to 4k. If you are staying at a resort or a big hotel ask your hotel for the nearest covid testing for tourist.
