How do y'all sing from the diaphragm instead of the throat?

I be straining my voice too much. Got me sounding like doc rivers in this bytch

I was taking voice lessons when I was younger but had to stop before I perfected that. I feel like over time I've learned how to do it on my own. But I would still like to take voice lessons one day.

I have a aight singing voice, nothing like @Hathaway. I'm a tenor but everytime time I sing my throat is sore.

Yeah, it's just taking a deep breath and using that air to support and strengthen the vocal note. I don't sing from my diaphragm unless I'm trying to sustain a very long note or hit a high note. Otherwise, I sing comfortably from my throat, head voice/chest voice.
