how can it not be when his name is in the title?

THIS THREAD ISN'T ABOUT KOBE!

so lets say some kid comes along 10 years from now and averages 40 ppg/10 rpg/10 apg for 1 season sweeping every award (MVP, DPOY, finals MVP) and wins the chip carrying a decent but not great team.
you'd put him above Jordan as the GOAT?
lol or how about we do something realistic.
A guy comes plays 10 years, get's hurt retires, but wins 3 mvps, 2 rings etc.. We can see his impact and place him accordingly.
your the one who said you prefer peak value over longevity. i gave you the most extreme example. and unless you say dude is the GOAT then you value some longevity.
so the question is balance. how much weight is given to peak performance vis-a-vis longevity. and that is fine with me. its the reason I have Jordan over Kareem (because if Kareem has a better basketball resume in total).
we have to use common sense here
for me i would break down a player's career like this
40% = personal accolades (stats, mvps, all nba O and D teams, DPOY, etc..)
20% = longevity (just because player x played 15 years doesn't make them better than player y who played 9 years)
30% = peak value (prime years, how good were you relative to your competition at that juncture)
5-10% = championships (higher % if you won while being the best player on your team)
Yeah cause one year of playoffs ends this debate.MVP Years
2008 Kobe Bryant Playoffs
30.1 PPG/48%FG/30%/57%TS/51%EFG
2014 Kevin Durant Playoffs
29.8 PPG/46%FG/34%/57%TS/51%EFG
