Question regarding the coup in the Venezuela, the US and oil

America is the world's largest producer of oil. The country is now self-sufficient when it comes to oil.

My question is: Why is the US government being accused of orchestrating a coup in Venezuela for the sole purpose of gaining control of their oil reserves?

Venezuela has more oil than Saudi Arabia for one, secondly the US Government doesn’t want to use all the homeland supply because it’ll be needed if US oil supply is hindered by war, and lastly the US Dollar is propped up by nations needing US Dollars in order to trade oil aka “PetroDollar”.
