If I have had a high balance let’s say for a year

Then pay that balance in full one day, can i then immediately ask for a credit limit increase or will i have to wait

You can immediately ask, but you will be denied most likely. you need to carry a low balance for 3-6 months

Do some reading on the credit subreddit

Like someone else mentioned you should be asking for CLI every 6 months like clockwork

But since you have maxed out cards, your scores have already taken a pretty big hit (utilization is 30%) so I would keep that balance down until after your statement date, let the low balance get reported to the bureaus and then request the CLI.

Cap1 is stingy with their CLI's, dont expect much

Discover is a lil better

If you're looking for higher credit limits with mediocre credit, you need to be looking at credit unions (NFCU for example)

Capital one might give you an increase in your situation because they increased mine about 5 years ago when i carried a high balance, but you can give up on Discover (I’ve tried several times)
Well in that case how long will it take for my score to increase again so I can get other credit cards

If you know somebody that is military (active/retired/reserve/etc) they can sponsor you in. Thats how alot of nikkas sneak in the backdoor
I've seen some people call NFCU and they didnt even ask them about their military affiliation.

Once you in, u got access to all the products

Once you get a decent limit with them, its easier to go to other banks/credit unions and get similar limits.

They not the only credit unions that do this, but they are the most popular
