And I would like more time to see how my other opportunities pan out. I think I am going to request a month before I officially start in order to field other offers and select the best position for me. Do companies usually allow you to take that long before starting a position? I plan on telling them I have some things I have going on in my current job that I need to complete and it will take 4 to 5 weeks. Any advice?

4 to 5 weeks might seem a little sketchy...if you were a hiring manager, what would you think if a prospective employee told you that? 2 to 3 weeks sounds better, just tell them you have to give notice at your old job :manny:

nah. the most you should ask for is 3 weeks. 2 weeks to give ur current position notice. and a week to do whatever it is u wanna do. if u mention a "month" u'll make urself look bad in the sense that u'll come off as not wanting the job bad enough....which translates into you being unreliable.

Depends. You can always ask.
If they give you a deadline, then you need to make your decision by then.

Damn, this sucks because I have interviewed with like 6 positions and I wanna go to the highest bidder. This is the first offer I have received and would hate to jump on it so fast.

Look into maybe taking a leave of absence due to "mental" issues..or "family matters" or something. Go to your jobs Human resources site, and read up on what qulifies for a leave of absence.

You can also go the FMLA route...the family leave act. Not sure if all states support this, You can't get fired if you have "family or health issues" Requires your Job to keep your spot without pay.

well if you've interviewed with 6 positions and you haven't received offers from them, or if u dont within the next couple of days then its safe to say u aint gonna be hearing from them.

in my experience, u'll know within a day or two if ur gonna get a job. if a job is taking weeks to respond to an interview result u already went for, u know what time it is.
