Quentin Jammer, who joined the Chargers as the fifth overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft, has been with the team longer than any of his teammates — and longer than all but three players in franchise history. But Jammer expects to suit up for the Chargers for the last time on Sunday.

“Last year, I guess,” Jammer told Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego. “I think about it all the time. Everything I’ve been through – the ups and downs, being a part of this organization for such a long time. Not to know my future is weird, different.”

This should hit you hard.

His early penchant for penalties and his hands of steel have been oft-lamented by fans. But Jammer grew on San Diego for his consistency and improvement, his physicality and his simple desire.

His quiet dedication to a local high school for foster children earned him even more respect. His many years as doting husband and father became almost legendary to teammates and fans alike. His candor earlier this year in the wake of his divorce, wherein he acknowledged his drinking and thoughts of suicide, cemented his eminent humanity.

No current player has been in the Chargers locker room longer, and there have been just a handful ever more widely revered.

In his more than a decade as the Chargers left cornerback, through just three missed starts and two missed games, Jammer rose from underappreciated to impossible to overestimate.

And for so long, it seemed he would just always be here.

The supreme cliché among NFLers is that “it’s a business.” But that business swept by without Jammer being party.
:ehh: So who he looking at signing and wanting 34-year old Jammer? He has been solid, but I guess its safe to say he is a bust as he was selected 5th, and look at all the other big names and defensive stars that came out of that 02 draft. But, I did remember him shutting down Moss though in that 07 Playoff game against the Pat's, which was practically his best game. Anyways, who is gonna want "Light Weight Jammin'" Jammer?

I hope there's some way to keep him. I'll low-key root for him where ever he goes. Dude was terrible when he first arrived and became pretty solid.

If he converts to safety he can add another 4-5 years of good ball. He started fading last season and it's gonna get worse. He had a run though after them first two years where him and Sammy Davis were complete shyt, he stepped his game up.

I really thought this was going to be the year he switched to safety. I remember him even saying he thought that was what would happen on the radio. Norv was interviewed a bit later and he was like, "Quentin is a cornerback :hmm:". I don't know what we're going to do about the cornerback position because Jammer is probably leaving and I think Cason's contract is also up--I'm not that big of a Cason fan, dude doesn't seem to really get it. It did seem like he had a better year though--but i dont have access to any advance stats.

Agree with you on Cason, to me he wasn't that much an upgrade from Cromartie(who sucked dikk after his 10 pick season). Gilchrist looks pretty good and I guess we're gonna be in the market for another corner.

Strong safety has been a issue for fukking years now and I think it would be better to roll with Jammer at that spot than use a fukking pick on one(need to use about 3 picks on that O-line :scusthov:).

One another couple notes bright spot for the squad is that I think going into next year we'll probably have a top 6-7 defensive line. These muthafukkas are beast. Also finally getting rid of Larry fukkIN English is gonna put a smile on my face. So disappointed with that fukking worthless bytch.
