All of you DB/Z stans constantly argue whether Frieza or Cell arethe best arcs in Goku's life. But honestly, the Piccolo Saga (King Piccolo and Jr) are the fukking shyt. Toriyama was seriously thinking about ending Goku's story right there. Yeah I understand, the english version didn't get dubbed until 2003-04 around the time Buu was wrapping up, but still you got Goku coming full circle. Dude grew up, got married, was finally the strongest in the world undisputedly and had won the 23rd world martial arts tournament. There were some fukking epic fights as well. Goku vs. Tien was cool, Tien vs. Mercenary Tao, and of course Goku vs. the Piccolo's. Appreciate greatness.

I agree with you premise, but my favorite is the Vegeta saga. That set the tone, raised the bar. Raditz was tough but.
But when they knew Vegeta was on his way, well, that guy remained Goku's rival for the rest of the series. Cuz it was that damn epic
