Some background first: there was an OKcupid app that determined Blacks the least desirable. I felt this was partially wrong, and not a good study. And there was a thread espousing similar views. So I dug up a research paper.
The study: the paper below was conducted by researchers at various prestigious institutions such as Columbia and Chicago University. They found that even among progressive whites, whites tended to prefer their own kind.
My opinion: I went to a private institution and made a similar conclusion. Whites tended to prefer other whites even though they were 'progressive'. But from IR I did hapoen to notice, the Blacks weren't dating busted down white women or white men. Black men and women were datingm, what seemed to me, the cream of the crop. There were less of those relationships though so I will chalk it up to them being outliers.
The study: this study also concluded that women tend to prefer their own race over others even when discounting other factors.
My opinion/study: they did not explicitly say it but they mentioned wanting to study economic backgrounds of participants in the future. I believe this plays a huge role. Blacks are seen as hungry, disheveled, and poor (we kind of are but that is a different topic) in the media. This paints a one-sided picture causing people to think, subconsciously, that being with Blacks will not lead to a prosperous life. Smarter whites tend to see through it and judge on a specific person-to-person basis from my own experience dealing with white people.
The study: a factor contributing to outside racial dating is upbringing from racially homogeneous communities. If you are born in a white community, you are more likely to date someone that does not look like the people in your community.
My opinion: i don't know how true this is because I read other studies in the past exclaiming that those you go to high school with impact your dating preferences greatly. So a white kid going to a Black school in HS will probably prefer Black mates... I believe this should be studied further.
The study: the study concluded that the races of women find white, Black, and Hispanic men more attractive than Asian men. The study even found Asian women find white, Black, and Hispanic men more attractive than Asian men.
My opinion:
The study: Asian women were considered less attractive by men (Black women were considered least attractive but not too far behind Asian women looking at table 6 and 7). Even Asian men find Asian women to be less attractive than white, Black, and Hispanic women.
My opinion: Damn... Self hate is real and more prevalent in the Asian population.

Issues: the sample size is quite small. I also dislike the study omitting whites from table 6. They added them back into the more robust table 7 though.
Overall: Blacks aren't necessarily the least desirable. Black men tend to be more attractive (based on the study) than Hispanics and Asians even though we are in dire straits.
Black women may be the least desirable however they are more desirable amongst Asian men when compared to Asian women. And I do believe a lot of negative imagery of Black women contributes to their desirability factor. This is my opinion. Not only that, if you look at the data, Black women don't fall too much behind Asian women overall.
So are Blacks less desirable? Not really.
