Oxford University’s activist community has been rocked after one of the campus’ leading radical activists resigned after admitting she had sex with someone without their consent.

Annie Teriba is a third-year student who was an officer in Oxford’s People of Color and Racial Equality, Black Students’ Committee and National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts, and the editor of No HeterOx**, a radical LGBT publication. But Teriba resigned all those positions, saying in a Facebook post (complete with trigger warning) that she had non-consensual sex with another student.

“I failed to properly establish consent before every act,” Teriba writes. “I apologize sincerely and profoundly for my actions. I should have taken sufficient steps to ensure that everything I did was consensual. I should have been more attentive to the person’s body language. In failing to clarify that the person consented to our entire encounter, I have caused serious irreparable harm.”

Despite Teriba’s history of advocacy against “rape culture” at Oxford, other feminists immediately turned on her. One Oxford women’s group condemned the statement, calling it “rife with [rape] apologism” and vowing to keep their “liberation spaces” “abuser-free.”
