3,1 and 2 then the portable stuff. Never played 4. 5 was a great open world stealth game but didn't feel like MGS so much.

MGS1 + FF7 changed my life as a young Sony gamer. MGS1 is goat for me
MGS2 was dope too, the Raidan complaints are a bit overblown
I tried MGS3 a few times but I always got bored while playing....
Pretty sure I own 4 & 5 but they collected dust, so I cant review

MGS-Goat game. Top 5 all time
MGS5-Better than MGS in lots of modern ways, graphics, controls etc, but couldn’t hold up to the feels of the OG games
MGS3- Lots of improvement to the gameplay, story/setting was kinda meh
MGS2-Not a fan of gay snake, didn’t really improve on MGS
MGS4-Too many movies, not enough compelling gameplay
MGS5-Better than MGS in lots of modern ways, graphics, controls etc, but couldn’t hold up to the feels of the OG games

Metal Gear Solid 3 is the best game imo. It's rare when the actual gameplay and the plot are on equal footing.
Metal Gear Solid 1 is right there but the GameCube Remaster is the definitive version and it's a shame it wasn't on more platforms.
Metal Gear Solid 2 was ambitious but flawed. Forcing is to play as Raiden. One thing I will say the plot was way ahead of it's time. Talking about fake news, the future of nuclear proliferation and puppet leaders.

Metal Gear Solid had me feeling like I was playing in a big budget action movie. I love that game.
MGS3 was great as well. That sniper boss battle ranks up there for me with the best boss fights of all time. But that Boss battle in the tall grass
