So, I don't really post and create many threads on this but today was just embarrassing for me.

Is there anything more emasculating than as a man asking another man for a raise? Him not agreeing to what you think you are worth? Just being in that awkward position of the back and forth.... I can seriously do the job much better than my boss. I am more technologically savvy, can research better, etc etc yet I am getting paid MUCH LESS than him. This is some bullshyt.

I need to start my own biz so I can make some money out'chea. aliG OUT!

I'm not sure it is emasculating.

But it sounds like you are realizing you have a certain value for yourself.
Don't feel emasculated or angry. You just realized that you need to either find another job or create your own business where you can pay yourself what you're worth. That's a good thing.

Good luck

Nothing wrong with asking to be paid closer to what you're worth. If your boss/company isn't budging on it, you have no loyalty to them. If you're planning on going your own way, best of luck breh.

It's only emasculating, if you can't, as a man, show him what you're worth and why you should have that worth recognized in a monetary sense. Simply rolling in and asking, to have your pay raised without being able to articulate this shyt is sad and too many cats think just because they was working at a spot for X years, that they should get incremental raises for being on the roster that damned long. Don't work like that.

Using myself as an example, I basically showed my Boss that not only am I the only worker he can call on, damn near anytime, go to damn near any project, drive damn near any machine WITH CARE and not have issues with, I'm also the only one that don't steal shyt (didn't rat anyone out but he knows) or come up late/short with cash. shyt, at times my stupid ass fronts cash for certain deals/projects out of my own pocket if we in a bind and I ain't trying to run up to head office and get any punk ass Purchase Order.

I also showed him, that I could do ALL This, for someone else, or much less, go full on into Heavy Machine Work and give up his shyt all together and leave him with the same drifters I met, befriended and then rose above (I work in the office and outside at a Hardware/Contractor firm) what he expected me to do. He wanted to be a hard ass and stall me out, so I took a month vacation and came back to him changing his tune.

Came in to say something akin to this.

There isn't anything wrong with showing somebody that they need you...but you have to be able to prove that.

I think it’s the feeling of knowing your bargaining power. Like, in that employee/employer situation, even if you desires aren’t met, walking away from the situation is unlikely.

That’s what makes you feel powerless

WHAT???

breh i dont ask for raises, i demand them. And if they say no (which of course has happened), im htting up my contacts that night to see where im working next.

Some of my biggest raises have been me leaving the company if you know what im saying.

We as black businessmen and women gotta know our worth. If you hit me with a 4% raise after my first year of working, im as good as out the door. Dont play with your coins, shyt is life and death to me, seriously.

If i wasnt so serious about this i would probably be making half of what i make now:camby:

You bring it up but make light of it like it's no big deal while networking and looking for another job, same salary or better with room for growth. Once you find that job, don't give notice. He doesn't give a fukk about you so neither should you about him.

Get a hustle breh, it's never been easier to start a business.

One hustle I got put up on, rent a house in a popular area for like 900 a month, then put it on airbnb for like 100 a night. Have a few properties like that, you will be rolling in cash

Or search for a high paying job
