Rant: What is a "Hardcore" gamer?

Ok with all this fanboy stanning on on both sides (Mostly Sony stans) I keep hearing if your are hardcore gamer, you have to go with the PS4. There's a assumption that the X1 is not for hardcore gamers. Now that the drm stuff is gone now its the multimedia and kinect that keep it being hardcore. I don't get it? How does having those features keep it from hardcore gaming? If a PC gamer builds a gaming PC it still runs Office products and play movies etc. Those functions do not tarnish its game playing abilities.

Now lets get to types of gamers. If a gamer plays sports, racing and fps he not a real gamer. But if you play rpg's, platformers and obscure games such Bayonetta then you are hardcore gamer? I personally believe that if you but a lot of time into any game genre then you are hardcore gamer. Who says a hardcore gamer can't like the Nfl or the Nba. Sounds like the classic case of the nerds vs jocks. I'm I missing something? Help a brother out lol

A Hardcore gamer plays and is good/great at almost everything. Most Hardcores are concerned with stats and are completionists.
A Professional gamer usual excels at one or two genres and may be sponsored. You'll find many Pro gamers who are hardcore to a degree.
A Casual gamer plays casually, usually doesn't take stats/trophies/achievements seriously and may not play much at all.

I used to be Hardcore/Purist... real old school. No cheats, no codes, no guides definitely no boosting or glitching.

Still play, but no where near as much as i used to.

How does having tv connectivity interfere with your gaming? Actually with MS model you get to our games quicker.

if it appears to those on your friendlist that you are going after a netflix trophy/achievement then you are not hardcore.....

With PS4 I get better looking exclusives.. That's worth the price of admission.. It sure was for PS3

& it's cheaper. I'll take 4

The reason varies from person to person who says that, but I think some say the ps4 is for gamers because xbox one is trying to appeal to consumers who are looking for a more broad based entertainment system. Both consoles are doing the same thing but going about it in different ways. With the inclusion of sports channels, ppvs, netflix etc... and Microsofts aggresive push to capture the cable network audience, I think that is why some assume it's not all about the games anymore...

Any game is for gamers, it don't matter if it's a board game, a card game, or a video game. The system of choice whether it be pc/sony/microsoft/etc. doesn't matter.

My purchasing habits are one that would make most people blush. However, due to time spent on games, I'd say I'm not a hardcore gamer any more, but still above that of a causal. I buy way too many games and other shyt to be considered a causal though

The greatest thing about this generation is choice. Provided you can afford it, you always have a choice to choose which console appeals to you, so there really isn't any point in arguing anymore, both consoles are more than adequate in providing multimedia entertainment.

You're not going to find a top console that doesn't do anything but play games, those days are gone. These guys like sony & microsoft want to compete against your local cable providers, this doesn't mean they'll stop making your favorite exclusives, it's just a sign of the times.

Like saying a Ferrari is not a car for the driving enthusiast because it comes with a radio.

The radio adds to the experience, it does not take away from it. That's why it has an off and on button.

You sound level headed and fair, you're going out of your way to seem so. But your answer is just as horrible as every other irrational fanboy answer I've heard out there.

That to be determined if there is a big difference in graphics. Cost is not really a reason for a hardcore gamer. And according to some hardcore gamers its all about gameplay not graphics. Only casuals like graphics they say.

But its nothing wrong with appealing to the masses. I think some hardcore gamers have to understand they are the minority. You cant have a successful system without appealing to a wide range of people including the so called hardcore gamer to be successful in the market.
