- They said it started in the 1950s
- Had the guy controlling the music called the "Selector" which pre-dates the DJ
- Parties would consist of rival sound systems going against each other like in 1970s Hip Hop
- Toasting (which originated with ska, reggae, dancehall, and dub) pre-dates Rapping in America
- It was brought to the UK with the influx of Jamaican immigrants
- DJ Kool Herc who is Jamaican was influenced by Sound Clash culture and brought it to the US

So do they have a point?
Or are they completely off base?
Or is the truth somewhere in the middle?

“From Reconstruction to the jazz age through today, this boasting tradition has been a uniquely urban phenomenon.”

They said it themselves that we were not listening to their music so why would we do Jamaican toasting when we have American toasting that predates it and is pretty in line with how black Americans rap and signify, and the element of improvisation.. and the fact that American (New Orleans specifically) rnb and jazz influenced two of the genres above(reggae artists were doing rnb covers in the beginning) claiming to have invented toasting.. and then you have blues and funk old heads claim either James brown started the shyt or they themselves did

Somethings not adding up

The dozens during rent parties with ya peoples, sharing a brew and some reefer... back in Harlem in the 20s.

Easy: erasure of an ethnic group using an adjacent one under the term "black".
