Anyone else not get the same energy listening to new music like before?

Like 2001-10 we had dipset,Gunit,Rocafella,Even Murda Ink each had a nice run and good exposure everyone was bumping the same shyt

Now its like rap is lacking the hype. No one cares anymore, Publicity stunts dont work, Rap isnt hitting top 10 billboard hot 100 anymore, No talent,

This is the same shyt that happend to rock after the early '00

1. Social media
2. Kids have gotten softer. Look at cyber bullying. In my day if you offed yourself because someone called you a name over the internet, you would be considered weak as fukk. Nowadays it's the norm.

How does social media effect this tho?

IMO its lack of talent and these whack South rappers and NY falling off.

originality.

before, dudes had certain styles and demeanors in each camp. Things that made them stand out from the rest.

And each person in that camp had an individual style. It had been like that since Rap Immemorial.

Cash Money sounded like Cash Money. No Limit sounded like No Limit. Bad Boy sounded like Bad Boy. G-Unit, Shady/Aftermath, The ROC, Murda Inc, Dip Set, West Coast factions.....

Now look what you got.

nikkas from New York have been sounding like nikkas from down south, nikkas from texas. nikkas from NO trying to sound like nikkas from Florida. nikkas from florida sounding East Coast. Fat Joe was rocking an I-95 chain for fukks sake. One of the biggest stars in rap is a Jew from Canada with an east coast flow signed to a record label from New Orleans.

Think about that for a second.

Originality.

Edit: sorry. there's no such thing as a distinction between an east coast flow and a Canadian flow. :heh: sorry.

Back then you could tell where a artist was from by the way they rapped.

yeah.

When I was coming up :old::old::old:

a-anyway, when I was coming up and first started to listen to rap music heavy, I was really REALLY shocked to learn there were artists like Heiro/LootPack/hobo Junction and the like on the West Coast.

I was shocked a while back that Jay Elect was from The Nolia Projects.

Nowadays, you can figure TDE is from out west cause they claim it. It's not that far from the norm.

But how the hell can you claim to be in a competitive market and better than the next man/camp/region......

when you're a blatant knockoff and biter of the next man/camp/region?

You know what ushered in the TRUE Golden Age for Hip Hip (mid-90s)? That Source Awards where Snoop and OutKast got up and was like "I REP THIS shyt AND WE BETTER THAN YOU!!!!" Then they went to the studio and tried to prove it.

Even before that, cause you KNOW nikkas was hearing each other's work and was like "I can do better than that!"

Nowadays..... ":wrist::o::wub::wrist::o::wub::wrist::o::wub::wrist::o::wub: I'm from New yaaawk and I'm on da Souf'sdiiiick I fukked yo gurl I'm gettin money doe"

and you can exchange New York and Da Souf with whatever region you please.

I legit hadn't heard a "rock" song in a long time on the radio. These two tracks are in the top 10 on the billboard classified as rock in 2013.

I randomly plugged in a year to see the difference. 1997

Big difference. 3 entirely different vibes from these tracks. Some of these tracks defined entire movies. Garbage was on the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack, 3rd Eye Blind - American Pie(outro). I like newer music and really have no complaints but rock music is definitely endangered. It all sounds the same. @Mr. Negative said it best. People from Moscow now sound like people from Idaho.

Because they fell off. If anything the South was the last great era of hip-hop. If it hadn't been for the South, the denigration of rap all together would have happened much sooner than it did.
