A few of the white men around Harlem, younger ones whom we called "hippies," acted more Negro than Negroes. This particular one talked more "hip" talk than we did. He would have fought anyone who suggested he felt any race difference. Musicians around the Braddock could hardly move without falling over him. Every time I saw him, it was "Daddy! Come on, let's get our heads tight!" Sammy couldn't stand him; he was under-foot wherever you went. He even wore a wild zoot suit, used a heavy grease in his hair to make it look like a conk, and he wore the knob-toed shoes, the long, swinging chain -- everything. And he not only wouldn't be seen with any woman but a black one, but in fact he lived with two of them in the same little apartment. I never was sure how they worked that one out, but I had my idea.
About three or four o'clock one morning, we ran into this white boy, in Creole Bill's speakeasy. He was high -- in that marijuana glow where the world relaxes. I introduced Sophia; I went away to say hello to someone else. When I returned, Sophia looked peculiar -- but she wouldn't tell me until we left. He had asked her, "Why is a white girl like you throwing yourself away with a spade?"

Most of y'all nikkas was as quiet as a titmouse when Eminem used the n-word in a CLEARLY offensive manner.
I don't wanna hear shyt about y'all being mad because some delusional white guy claimed to use it as a term of endearment.
Stop calling yourselves nikkas and this problem won't even exist. Stop that shyt and THEN you have the right to complain.
Soon black folk will be labelled racist for NOT allowing whites to use the word.
Stop calling yourselves nikkas and this problem won't even exist. Stop that shyt and THEN you have the right to complain.
I'm not justifying white people at all. Believe that. All I'm saying is you can't expect someone to view you positive if you can't view yourself as positive. We teach people how to treat us.This is taking the 'its always the black man's fault' mentality too far. Your post is definitely white-supremacist friendly, with its "if black people would stop doing _____, racism wouldnt exist" bullsht
So let me get this straight, white people terrorize black people with the n word for centuries, which socially enforced the idea that black people represent the absolute worst offerings of humanity. Black people in response co-opt the word to use as intra-racial currency, and morph it so it denotes comradarie, and and ironic sense of brother hood and shared experience, as a strategy to minimize the terror inflicted. So now white people, true to their entitled we do what we want nature, are offended because we have culturally quarantined them from a word they invested centuries in, for the explicit purpose of mentally abusing us? Thats whats good?
Kiss my a$$.@ chiding black people. How about stop being demonic racists? how about that for once?
Who's "y'all"? Why don't you be specific?
I don't use the word. And I was one of the first people getting at Eminem for using it in a racist manner when everyone was jumping at me and using the same "it's black people's fault" line as if whites haven't been using the word for centuries.
It's not right to be used at all, period.
I'm not justifying white people at all. Believe that. All I'm saying is you can't expect someone to view you positive if you can't view yourself as positive. We teach people how to treat us.
You are justifying it....white racism is the dependent variable here, so why should the onus on black people? Why should black people have to stop using it? So it can become a slur again, and used exclusively by white people (as if they ever stopped in the first place)?
We've taken the power from the word. When niqqer was used in previous generations by white folks, black people were:
Now we're like...thats why they're really mad. We took the power from 'em
They just hate the idea that something has social currency, and they dont have complete control over it. Especially something they designed to humiliate someone with, which is now turned on its ear.
